The silicone elastomer ring (LAP-BAND® System) is designed to be placed around the upper part of the stomach and filled with saline on the inner surface.

Saline can be added or removed from the ring to adjust the size of the opening (stoma) into the stomach.

A smaller opening into the stomach will reduce the amount of food that can be eaten before you feel full.  The result is less food consumed and a more rapid rate of weight loss.
